About the role
The Part‑Time Audio Technician role involves supporting live client proceedings by managing audio recording equipment, monitoring audio quality, and ensuring accurate documentation of speaker activity. Based on‑site in Long Island, you will enable and monitor recordings, support technical troubleshooting, and contribute to smooth, reliable proceedings for transcription and client-use purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Merge two phone conference lines using a mobile phone.
- Set up portable recording equipment at client locations.
- Start, stop, and pause recordings based on client direction.
- Monitor audio recordings throughout proceedings.
- Troubleshoot operational or equipment‑based audio issues as they arise.
- Log the order of speakers to support the transcription team.
- Complete required paperwork.
- Attend in‑person hearings at least three days per week in the New York metropolitan area.
Requirements
Experience & Education
- 1–2 years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Audio experience preferred but not mandatory.
Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret audio materials and technical procedures.
- Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with managers and clients.
- Basic mathematical abilities (add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals).
- Basic knowledge of audio recording hardware/software (training provided).
- Familiarity with Zoom.
Equipment Needed
- A mobile phone.
- A computer or device capable of completing electronic MS documents.
Others:
- Punctual arrivals with open availability (hearings can last from 9 AM to 6 PM)
- Responsible with equipment provided for recording purposes.
- Setting up a portable kit on client premises
- Knowledge of signal flow (audio/video production a plus) to monitor audio recordings while in process.
- Troubleshooting any audio problems as they occur, whether operational or equipment based.
- Comfortable speaking in a hearing/meeting environment.
- Complete and accurate paperwork, which includes logging attendees’ names, speaker IDs, and documentation of on/off record times.
- Remote recording requires the ability to merge two phone conference lines via mobile phone.
- Professional attire or production attire (all black, no logos).
